On the weekend edition of
Good Morning America each weekend they have a segment called “Your Week in Three Words.” I love this segment. Viewers send in a short video of themselves explaining what happened during their week in a creative way in just three little words.
For example, one week in the video, you see a lady’s hand and on her palm is written “I said” and then her hand turns over and you see the top of her ring finger with the letters “Y-E-S” and a shiny engagement ring. They make a montage of the videos that viewers send in and then put it to really cool music. It’s always pretty touching.
So this past weekend, since it is the end of the year, they had asked viewers to describe their entire year in three words and showed a montage of different videos viewers had sent in.
I didn’t participate but I sat there pondering how I would sum up a whole year in three words. Finally I came up with “heartbreaking and miraculous.” Heartbreaking because of the
separation between Charlie’s adoptive parents, the on going issues I continue to deal with related to adoption as well as the emotions I deal with as a result of our pregnancy losses. Miraculous because of the
growing bond between Charlie and I as well as
Charlie and Noah and miraculous because in November,
Noah walked with a regular walker, something we thought he would never be able to do!
So, then I decided to ask a few of my birthmother friends how they would describe their year in three words and here are a few of their descriptions:
1. Difficult and Dream Fulfilling
2. Stressful and Challenging
3. Peaceful, Painful, and Joyous
4. Depressing, Hectic, and Enjoyable
5. Tough, Precious, and Timeless
6. Watershed, Challenging, and Fulfilling
7. Bittersweet
And my favorite response from another birthmom was “found my son” as 2007 was the year she found and reunited with her birthson.
So, how would you describe your year in three words?
