In my
last post I wrote about how I have been really struggling with my depression lately but how in the past week to week and half my mood and demeanor seems to be lighter and happier and I am partially attributing this change to the daily time I have carved into my busy schedule for crafting.
While writing that post, I began to wonder myself, why I find crafting so therapeutic. I think it’s rewarding to me personally for a few reasons. One, you are creating something and you get to see instant results. I love watching something come to life. You start with nothing and with time and work a project begins to take life and come to shape. The end result is probably the most rewarding. Looking at a completed project and seeing how far it has come from something plain to something special is a very accomplished feeling.
I also love giving something that I have made as a gift. Sure, I can run to a store and buy something off a shelf in about five minutes flat, but making something special for a person is such a personal thing and I think it makes them feel very loved and appreciated to know that something was made special for them.
I especially love making things for Charlie. Yes, I still buy him toys or things I know that he wants from the store, but I always throw something handmade in there as well. Maybe at age six he isn’t that appreciative of a handmade gift, but I do believe that one day he will look back and be appreciative of those gifts and realize the amount of love and work that went into them.
As I said in my previous post, crafting isn’t for everyone – but find your thing!
