In
yesterday’s post, I discussed that there are some members of the adoption triad who wear more than one adoption “hat” meaning that they hold more than one position in the triad. Thus far, I have shared the story of Lisa, who is a birthmother and an adoptee.
Today, in continuing with this short series of discussing triad members who have more that one “position” in the adoption triad, I’ll share with you the story of a second woman. Let me introduce you to Kacy. She is both a birthmother and an adoptive mother.
Kacy became pregnant in 1987 when she was raped at only thirteen years old. With the help and direction of her parents, Kacy decided to make an adoption plan for her unborn baby because at the young age of thirteen, she and her parents felt that she wasn’t ready to be a parent and wouldn’t be able to give a child everything he or she would need and deserve.
“My parents took me to see an adoption attorney. We hated him! He was trying to make it sound like I would profit from the adoption of my son. I would have college education money, money for clothes, etc... After running out of his office, we found an adoption agency and that is where I found and chose the adoptive family for my son.”
Kacy gave birth to a baby boy in March of 1987. She named him Ashley Blain at birth and his adoptive parents later changed it to Chris. Kacy had a semi open adoption, only knowing Chris’s family’s first names, no identifying information, and received letters and pictures through the agency. Kacy and Chris reunited in 2004. They have a great relationship. Not only does Kacy have a great relationship with Chris, but with his adoptive parents as well.
Stay tuned for part 2 in which we will learn how life leads Kacy to becoming an adoptive mother.
