In this series on therapeutic activities I have shared activities that myself and others may find therapeutic, comforting, and healing. Some of the ideas I have shared thus far are more involved and require a little bit of time, but there are other smaller things that you can do if you are having a rough day but don’t have enough time or energy to sit down and work on your scrapbook or there is not a support group meeting you can attend that day.

Below is a list of some my personal favorite therapeutic activities that don’t require much time or thought.

1. Take a nice, long, hot bubble bath with your favorite scented bubble bath. Light some candles too for an even more relaxing feel.

2. Get a manicure or a pedicure. If you can’t spend the money on one, invite a friend over and give each other manicures or pedicures.
3. Take a walk outdoors. The fresh air can be good for you. Take your i-pod or walkman with you and listen to some calming tunes as you walk.
4. Call an old friend and don’t talk about the heavy stuff, just re-live old times.
5. Watch a movie. Choose a comedy, not something sad.
6. Cook or bake something. This is probably one of my favorite things to do to calm myself. Cooking requires you to not think of other things but to pay attention to what you are doing and then you get to eat the rewards of your hard work!
7. Color in a coloring book. Ok, I know this one sounds silly but sometimes coloring in a coloring book is so relaxing and freeing especially if I am in a creative mood but do not have time to drag out a craft project.
8. If you are religious, pray.
9. Thumb through a magazine to take your mind off things. Fashion magazines are great for this!
10. Last but not least is one of my favorite things, retail therapy! Shopping (even window shopping if I’m low on funds) can take my mind off things. Purses are my weakness!
