The Few Positive Points in Juno

In my last post, I wrote about Juno and promised to share some of the things that I thought they (the characters in the movie) did right and some of the things they did wrong. There were instances and situations in the movie, where I found myself a tad surprised that they included this or that but unsurprisingly, overall my list of what I felt was done wrong or didn’t accurately portray the adoption process far outweighs my list of what I felt they did right. So let’s start with what I felt was right or good. These are all small, minor type of instances in the movie but I was trying to find something good amongst the bad.

When Juno was telling her parents (Dad and Step Mom) that she was pregnant, her step Mom tells her that “This (relinquishing a child for adoption) is a tough, tough thing. Tougher than you can understand right now.” While the issues associated with placing a child for adoption definitely needed to be explored more, I’m at least glad that they included this little part.

When meeting with the adoptive parents, the possibility of an open adoption was brought up. Neither Juno nor her Dad knew what open adoption was, so the adoptive parents’ attorney who was present during their first meeting briefly explained open adoption. But Juno said she preferred to keep it “old school.” I honestly was a little surprised that they brought open adoption up at all in the movie.

Juno seemed to have some family support, which is usually a good thing. Her Dad went with her to meet the adoptive parents and her Step Mom went with her to her doctor appointment.

In my next post, I’ll talk about what I felt was wrong in the movie.
