If you are a new reader of this blog, sometimes it can be a little overwhelming trying to figure out the gist of my personal adoption story. You may have to read through a few lengthy posts to understand who everyone is, how they are related, the sequence of events, etc.
In order to make it easier for new readers to understand, (at the suggestion of a new reader) I am writing this post which will contain a brief synopsis of my adoption story along with the important people in my life who are mentioned frequently in this blog. This post will serve as a “cliff notes” version of my personal adoption story. When I am writing a post that contains a lot of my personal experience in it, I will link back to this post for easy reference.
About the Writer:
Coley, currently 30, resides in South Carolina
Key players in my adoption story:
Charlie – my son that I placed for adoption, currently 5 years old
Noah – the son I parent, currently ten years old, and has cerebral palsy and epilepsy
J or Jason – my husband of four years, but not Charlie’s birth father
A – Charlie’s adoptive mom
S – Charlie’s adoptive Dad
N – Charlie’s adoptive sister
The Key Points of My Adoption Story:
- Found out I was pregnant when I was nearly five months along
- Was already a single mother to a special needs child and struggling to support us both
- uninvolved birthfather
- Decided to make an adoption plan
- Met the adoptive family at the restaurant where I was their favorite waitress
- They (the adoptive family) educated me about open adoption
- Finalized our adoption through a local private adoption attorney
- Since Charlie’s birth we have had a very open adoption that consists of all forms of communication as well as visits through out the year.
