As a Christian and a child of God, there are certain Bible verses that speak to me for different reasons. Some speak to me more than others at certain times of my life depending on what I am going through at that time in my life. Certain Bible verses have been favorites for a long time, while others may be favorites periodically depending on what I am going through at that time in my life.

It’s comforting to me to be able to turn to my Bible during times of need and find comforting words. I must admit that I was in so much pain during the first few days and weeks of being a birthmother, that I didn’t turn to my Bible right away. When I did, I didn’t find comfort instantly, but once I reflected and opened my heart to let God in, then I begin to find comfort.

This Sunday, and in the upcoming Sundays as pat of Sunday Inspiration segment, I thought I’d share some of my favorite Bible Verses as a birthmother. I know that each person loves different verses for different reasons, but I bet that other birthmothers may enjoy these same verses too.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

I like this verse because right after my placement and relinquishment of Charlie, I felt as if I failed God. Not because I gave life to Charlie and not because I placed him for adoption, but for the many mistakes that led up to the conception of Charlie. I felt that in many ways I had not only let down myself and both of my children, but I had let down God. This verse reminds me that I have to trust in God and lean on him, not on myself. That at my weakest when I feel that I can’t take care of myself, God is there for me and I can lean on him. Even in my darkest moments, if I acknowledge God, he is there for me.
