Spring has sprung! Well technically, it has. We still had freezing temperatures overnight earlier in the week, but according to the calendar it is spring. Do you have an upcoming visit with your child and family? If so, I have spring visit ideas for you.
Note: Some of the ideas below will vary depending on exactly how open your adoption is, the type of relationship you have with your child’s adoptive parents, the leeway you have with visits, and your child’s age. The ideas below are intended to include the child’s adoptive parents and siblings as well.
- Fly a kite. I hardly ever see people flying kites anymore, I guess our lifestyle as a whole has become too fast paced for kite flying, but flying a kite can be a lot of fun. You and your child could make the kite together and then go to a park or somewhere and fly the kite.

- Feed the ducks. I don’t know why, but spring just seems like such a great time of the year to go to a park with a pond and feed the ducks some bread. If you are lucky, you might even see some baby ducks at this time of year.
- Visit a petting zoo or farm. Since spring makes me think of new life, this would be an excellent time of year to visit a petting zoo, regular zoo, or a farm in your area.
- Plant something together. Spring is a great time for gardening and although just about anything I try to plant or grow dies, I’m sure there are some readers who have green thumbs. How neat would it be to plant a tree with your child in your yard and watch it grow over the years.
- Be outdoors. After being cooped up all winter, spring time is a great time just to be outdoors doing whatever. Go to a park and play. Go old school and jump rope or play hop scotch or even bring some sidewalk chalk and make a masterpiece!
Most importantly, have fun and create some memories!
