The latest news in the world of
celebrity adoptions is that singer, and
toilet paper conservationist, Sheryl Crow has announced her adoption of a baby boy whom she named Wyatt Steven. The news was posted today at her
official website and has already become the hot news topic online. Few other details were available except that Wyatt is now two weeks old and Ms. Crow is taking some family time to be with her new son.
Ms. Crow, who is a first time mother, had expressed her interest in adoption while doing an interview last summer with Larry King.
"If I were to adopt, I could love a child that came through somebody else's womb as easily as I could my own," Crow said.
I am sure that many opinions about this latest high profile adoptive Mom will be everywhere. I know there are things that I would love to know, even if it isn’t really any of my business.
How long was Ms. Crow preparing to adopt? Some people seem to believe that the rich and famous are rushed through the adoption process and that might be true. I am not rich or famous and our longest wait was 30 days, shortest wait 7 days, so go figure.
What agency did she use? I would love to know what their process is (since every single one of them seems to have a different one). Was it ethical?
Was her celebrity status used as an enticement to the birthmother? I mean gosh if you are placing you baby with Sheryl Crow you should at least get to meet her right? I would love to hear the perspective of baby Wyatt’s birthmother, as I am sure a lot of others would.
Is the adoption an open one? That brings up a huge question as to whether or not an adoption by someone famous can ever be an open one successfully. How does one choose a celebrity to adopt based on who they really are, or just what we know of their famous persona? If the world is truly moving toward more openness in adoption won’t this eventually catch up to the famous who adopt?
I have nothing against those famous folks who want to adopt, I guess I am just curious (like many others are) about those famous adoptions and if they will remain more like adoptions of the past, or progress along with us common folk into the world of openness.
In any account, a lot of stuff to think about. Think you have celebrity adoptions (or any adoption for that matter) figured out and guess what? Guess again.
Oh, I hope this kid is cool with one square of toliet paper per trip!
