Positive: Things I do Know

In my last post , I wrote about the things that I don’t know about Charlie being a huge negative aspect for me personally in my open adoption situation. It tears me up inside that I don’t know all the little things about Charlie that I do know about Noah. Piggybacking off that post and looking at the positive aspects of open adoption today, I’d like to talk about the things that I do know about Charlie.

Because of open adoption there are many little things about Charlie that I am able to know that other birthmothers who do not have open adoptions may not have the opportunity of knowing. While at times open adoption is very hard and dealing with things head on in open adoption is so difficult, I definitely am glad that I have an open adoption and the opportunity to know what I do know about Charlie. Although it’s difficult at times, I try to keep in mind that I am blessed in this aspect.

I know Charlie’s favorite color; it’s blue! I know what his favorite type of books are; anything Dr. Seuss! I know what his favorite food is; its spaghetti! I know he’s not a big fan of sweets but loves salty things like potato chips and pretzels although he does like chocolate, like me! I know that when he is falling asleep he rubs his feet together. I know he’s not afraid of the dark and teases his sister because she is! I know that he’s got my eyes and nose and resembles his brother Noah at that age. I know that he loves music and Clemson football, also just like me! I even know when he took his first steps, got his first tooth, and what his first word was. (It wasn’t Coley!) I also know that he’s happy, healthy, loved, and well cared for.

As you can see from that short little list there are many things that I am able to know, so sometimes when I’m feeling down about what I don’t know, I have go in Pollyanna mode and remind myself of what I do know.
