I received in my email a “Happy National Adoption Awareness Month from AF!” newsletter. It is from the Adoptive Families Magazine. It shared a link to their Outreach Guide. The magazine in general and the guide are geared towards adoptive parents.

You don’t have to be a newsletter subscriber to read the guide. (But if you want to be a subscriber, it’s free and you can sign up here.) I’ve snipped a piece of it and linked to the full guide below.

Standing up and speaking out

We know it’s good for our children—and our community—when we foster positive and accurate thinking about adoption. Advocacy is easy when you’re armed with the right information, so take advantage of the resources we have to offer. Below, you’ll find helpful articles, from the archives, about advocating for our children, and putting an end to the myths and stereotypes that continue to surround adoption.

The guide goes on to link to numerous articles and informative pieces on subjects like becoming an adoption advocate, rebutting adoption myths, adoption in the media, adoption at school, adoption in the workplace, championing adoption.

After scanning the newsletter and the article and reflecting on some earlier posts on Adoptionblogs.com on the subject, I got to thinking about the whole November Adoption Awareness Month.

What does adoption awareness mean to me as an adoptive mom in an open adoption relationship?
