One More Day

Have you ever wished for just one more day with your child? Have you ever wished for just one more kiss? One more touch? One more hour? One more moment?

The song, “One More Day,” by Diamond Rio describes my feelings and the feelings of many other birthmothers precisely.

First thing I'd do, is pray for time to crawl
Then I'd unplug the telephone
And keep the TV off
I'd hold you every second
Say a million I love you's
That’s what I'd do, with one more day with you

That is the second verse in the song, but my favorite verse in the song because it so accurately describes how I feel. When I was in the hospital, I can remember wishing time would slow down. I was even fussing at Charlie once he was born because he came early! I can recall thinking that my time was cut short because he was early. I was supposed to have had five more weeks of time with him. I replay in my head over and over what I would do if I was given the chance to do it all over again, to spend those last precious moments with Charlie all over again; to have one more precious moment. I know in hindsight I would have had fewer visitors at the hospital and more one on one time with him. I would do exactly what the song says in that verse; I’d turn of the phone, turn off the TV, banish everyone from room, and spend some one on one time cuddling with my baby boy.

But you can’t go back and change the past. However, I think even if I’d had all the time in the world with Charlie before relinquishment, I’d still be wishing for just one more day, just one more moment.

How much would you give up for one more day? How much money would you pay for just one more day? How many promises would you make if only you could have one more day? Would you do just about anything for one more day?

One more day
One more time
One more sunset, maybe I'd be satisfied
But then again
I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still, for one more day with you

I would give just about anything to go back in time and have just one more day. But like the chorus from the song (above) says, it would probably leave me wishing still for just one more day.

Even when I’m one hundred years old, I think I will still probably be wishing for that one more day.

One different day would be my wish - I would never have gone to the agency that one day that I did.

P.S. - One more hug is what I always want now when we part.

Oh, yes Jan, a different day would work for me too or maybe just subtract a day from my life? LOL
