New Year’s Resolutions

Do you make a New Year’s Resolution or goal for the New Year? Sometimes in the past I have made resolutions for the New Year, but like many people I feel they can be a tad bit intimidating at times. Many people feel that by starting resolutions at the beginning of the New Year, you have a fresh start or a clean slate, so to speak. Which is true, but it can also be very overwhelming for some to try and suddenly make a big change in your life just as one year fades out and another one starts up. In fact, many people prefer to just think of New Year’s resolutions as goals, which in reality is what resolutions really are.

Some people, like me, start off working on those goals a little harder in the beginning. That’s what I typically do – I start off high strung working on my goal or resolution faithfully and then by February, my energy and passion to complete the goal has fizzled and I just feel overwhelmed. Also, if you are not seeing the results of your resolution or goal quickly you may become discouraged, think that it isn’t working or worth it, and abandon your goal.

Another suggestion when making a goal or resolution is to give yourself a deadline. Don’t leave the time you want to achieve your goal so open ended. Also, make sure that your goals are realistic and achievable. Work on them steadily over time and you should begin to notice that you are accomplishing things.

This year, I am not really going to make a big resolution. I have some smaller goals that I have been working on and will continue to work on. One of those goals is to complete the rest of Charlie’s scrapbook up until present day. I make two scrapbooks that are identical; one for me to hang on to and then one for him to keep. I have given myself to his birthday in September to complete this goal as there is a lot of work left to be done to catch it up to present day but I know if I work on it a little bit each month, that I will have it finished by September.

Do you have a goal or a resolution for the New Year? If so, tell me about it and good luck with it!

My only resolution that I have made so far is to talk more lovingly and be more patient with my family at home. I am moving forward with my education also and if all goes well, I will be halfway through obtaining my Master's degree. I love your resolution of finishing Charlie's scrapbook by his birthday. I can not wait to see pictures of it when it is completed. :)
