Today is the first day of November, so happy November! And you’d have to be living under a rock by now to read the blogs and not know that it is National Adoption Awareness Month. So Happy National Adoption Awareness Month! Periodically through out the month, I will bring different stories and situations related to Adoption Awareness Month to you.

First, I’d like to share a poem that friend and fellow birthmom Alicia Moser wrote in honor of National Adoption Awareness Month. Alicia has recently published a book of poetry entitled Alicia’s Memoirs that contains numerous different poems, many adoption related or about her birth daughter.

I leave you with Alicia’s poem.

Adoption Awareness Month
by Alicia Moser

This is adoption awareness month,
to give people the chance to become aware,
of all the aspects of adoption,
and, why for many mothers it is an option.

We can’t always care for our babies,
the way we know we should,
so we look for a family who can,
give them what they need,
and so much more.

Please be aware,
the people we choose to raise the child(ren) we love,
that we care for them very much,
as we do you,

And, be aware,
that we still want to be a part of their lives,
so they know we will always care,
and want to share in their lives.

So, during this month of adoption awareness,
please take the chance to become aware,
if you don’t already know,
in our hearts, our child we will never let go of.
We love them so,
and this we want them to know.

Be aware that we still want to be around,
and still have a part of their lives.
Because, not only during adoption awareness month,
but, also year round,
in our hearts,
is where they will be found.
