My Thoughts on Motherhood

As my thirty first birthday draws near, I find myself thinking a lot about who I am, the person I have become and a good bit of my identity is wrapped up in motherhood.
I can always remember wanting to be a mother. It’s something that I knew I was destined to be. I can’t remember a time in which I never thought that I would be a mother.

As a child, I can remember playing Mommy and House with my dolls in my little fisher price kitchen. As I matured into middle school age, I remember day dreaming with my friends and coming up with these really horrible names of what I would name my children one day. And by the time I reached high school, I knew that I wanted to be the “kool aid” mom having all the kids over at my house, leading car pools, being the team mom, etc.

Today – I’m a mom three times over and my motherhood to each of my children is just as unique and different as they are but regardless of the type of mother I am to them, how old they become, or the circumstances that led me to become their mother, I am their Mother.

To Noah, I’m the super Mom, the team mom, the classroom Mom. I am the one who rubs his back till he falls asleep when he has a bad day and fights to make sure he is given what he needs and deserves to excel despite his special needs.

To Charlie, I’m his birthmom, his first mom, and his life mom. I am the one who gave him life and gave him his parents. I’m not able to be with him every day, but not a day goes by that I don’t think of him many times a day.

And to my angel baby Darcy, I am her mother in spirit. My motherhood to her is very intangible and not even recognized by some, I’m her mother in my heart and my soul, just as I am to each of my other children.

Through out the years growing up, when I was day dreaming of the days that I would bear the title of Mother, I never knew that the journey would be as it has been but regardless, I’m proud to be a mother to each of my three children.
