I love this picture of my little guy playing around on the piano! Isn’t he a cutie! He is wearing one of his Dad’s old shirts and ties and pretending to give a piano concert.
Charlie’s adoptive Dad, S, is a great pianist and vocalist. He plays the piano and sings very well and he I share a love for some of the same types of classical music. Placing Charlie with a family that also had a love of music and would encourage a love of music in Charlie, if he had one, was important to me when I was making my adoption plan since music was always (and still is) a important part of my life.
I was very musically inclined growing up. I began singing at a very young age and fell in love with being the center of attention and on a stage. My parents saw this and recognized that music was a great outlet for me and were always very encouraging (but not in a pushy, stage parent way) of me to follow my dreams if they led me in a musical direction. I always sang, took vocal lessons, and ultimately went to college majoring in vocal performance. I also took piano lessons during high school and although I didn’t finish my musical degree, music and singing still play an important role in my life. While most of my singing nowadays is either children’s songs sung to Noah, along with the car radio, or an occasional mini concert in the shower, I still love to sing.
It’s important to me that Charlie (and Noah or any other children I may have) are encouraged to pursue music if they so choose. And if they are not musically inclined, that is quite alright too! Whatever dreams Charlie has, I want to see him follow them.
So, today, love is all about the music!
