Love Thursday - Just Mommy And Carson At A Bee Movie

Today I actually did something that I rarely allow myself enough time for. After my son was out of school I decided, spur of the moment, to take in an afternoon matinee with him. Just the two of us!

The movie we saw was “Bee Movie” and it was absolutely adorable. I know the girls will be a bit miffed because they were not included. As the tiny guy in the family Carson often gets left out of the one-on-one time, so today was just about me spending some time with him. I usually spend so much of that time trying to get all my many jobs accomplished, that I forget just to have some fun with my son. Today felt like a break in the mundane, a wonderful indulgence, and I am glad that my little buddy and I were able to enjoy it.

Our family does not make it to see a movie often enough. Cierra’s behavior can be difficult to deal with when we are trying to do things as a family, and sadly because of that we have just gotten out of the habit of doing them. As Carson is the baby of the bunch, he also often gets the short end of the attention stick. Not enough cute videos exist of him, as his birthmom once rightly informed me. Not nearly enough endearing pictures are taken of him, though I am trying to get more. By the time this guy started preschool this year, he was stuck with an older, more worn out mom, who had forgotten how to have the fun little kids need. I am working on it though.

So today was supposed to be for my son, but I discovered it was a sweet little treat for me as well. We snuggled in our red velvet theater chairs, sharing a sip of soda and a humongous “popper corn” and giggling and elbowing each other over the funny parts of little Barry Bee’s antics. In some ways the little main character, tiny but with a huge heart and immense dreams for himself and his family, reminded me of the small person sitting next to me. Today he seems so little, but I often see a glimpse or two of the man in the making. Gentle, thoughtful, kind, and with huge dreams he sees no limits on being able to achieve. He really seemed to identify with Barry Bee too, especially when the smallest of the small, was able to pull of the biggest of feats, and earn the respect of bigger bees and humans alike.

If you ask Carson, his favorite part of the movie was when little Barry Bee earned his helmet and jacket with the popular “pollen jocks.” For me it was the beautiful animations in the ending, accompanied by a re-recording of the Beatles song, “Here comes the sun.” During the time we waited for our son to be born and join our family, that song was one we often sang together as a family, and adapted it by making the sun a son as we thought of him. To me it was very ironic as that long anticipated son and I watched the movie, playing that special song together.

Please stay tuned for my November 17th post, when I will give full details about an exciting GIVEAWAY I am hosting!

Thanks Coley!
I admit I went a little misty-eyed when I heard that song. Singing it when we were waiting for our little boy, was our way of storing and building up our love for his arrival. When you aren't the one who is pregnant, you prepare in different ways I suppose.
