Love Thursday: Friends First

This picture is a blast from the past, taken before Charlie was born. That’s me on the right and A. (Charlie’s adoptive mom) on the left. I’m about seven and half months pregnant in that picture.

A close friend of mine and was having a bachlorette party and I didn’t want to be the only one not drinking and having to leave the party early to rest, so A came with me. There’s no indication in this picture that A. is about to adopt my baby or that I’m about to be a birthmom. We just look like friends.

I love that we had the time and were able to bond and become friends first, before Charlie was born. It made entrusting him to her and S a tad bit easier, not just like handing him over to strangers.

We did become friends rather quickly and it was because of Charlie. At times, becoming friends quickly can be scary as you don’t have years of proof that you can trust that person. There is a Michael McLean song that describes how I feel about A and I forming a friendship so quickly.

From my Heart to Yours
By Michael McLean

Do you think that it’s possible for strangers like us to become friends
In just a moment or two?
In just a brief time could we open the doors of our hearts
Like old friends do?
Rushing a friendship can be risky for sure,
How rare it is to find a real friend.
And maybe you’ve opened your heart too soon before
And when it was broken you said never again.
But, do you think that it’s possible for strangers like us to become friends
In just a moment or two?
‘Cause we may share more of the same hopes and dreams in our lives
Than we ever knew.
For don’t we both hope for a world that is kind,
And don’t we both pray that war will cease?
And deep down inside don’t we all want to find
More hope, more joy, more love, and more peace?
Well, I’d like to find a way to open the doors
From my heart to yours.

Coley,
This post is so sweet!
(tissue please...)
I can only hope that my children's other moms see me in a similar light, and as a friend who cares.
