I’ve always loved books and been a little bookworm and my children are no different! That’s Charlie reading a book about trains I gave him last Christmas, me reading a book when I was three in the middle, and Noah reading a book he got as a birthday gift on the end.
My mother taught me to read at a young age by making me my own books using construction papers, markers, and stickers. By the time I was in the first grade, I was reading well above my age level. My love for books continued and I still love to read when I can find the time for it.
As a parent, it is very rewarding watching my child develop some of the same traits as myself and as a birthmother it is very validating to watch my child develop some of the same physical characteristics and personality traits as myself. It’s also neat to watch
Noah and Charlie share some of the same likes and dislikes.
And their love for books is no different! Noah would rather read a book over playing with any toy. Books are always at the top of every birthday and Christmas list and he is always dragging books all over the house. He probably has over one hundred books!
Charlie is beginning to develop a love of books as well. They are not at the top of every wish list for him yet, but I doubt that is far off. He enjoys receiving books and being read to.
As a birthmother, I like to give Charlie books for every
gift giving occasion, with other things of course, but there is always at least one book in the mix. Sometimes I may
give him an adoption book or perhaps a book about something he interested in at the moment. Giving Charlie books is important to me not only because I want to share my love of books with him, but because I am not there to read a book with him each night but by giving him books I like I can hope that those books are being read to him some nights.
So, this Thursday, love is about sharing the love of books and being a bookworm!
