Lifebook Resources and Ideas

Now, that you know almost everything there probably is to know about creating a lifebook for your child from my previous posts, let me share a few resources and other ideas with you!

I love scrapbooking websites. They can provide you with inspiration, great quotes, poems, layout ideas, etc! In searching, I found a lot of websites that have ideas for adoptive parents of children adopted internationally or sell products geared towards scrapbooks for internationally adopted children but unsurprisingly there is not very much information out there that is devoted to adoption scrapbooking from a birthmothers perspective so you’ll have to be creative and tweak things to fit your situation.

Websites (the first two are adoption related and the others are just scrapbooking sites)

  • Scrappin’ Lifemoms – Webpage on Lifemothers website by birthmother Allison featuring tips, ideas, and layouts.

  • SPONSOR
      Adopt in California

  • Adoption Scrapbooking - Section on adoption.com that has a little scrapbooking information with links to some of the forums that are related to adoption scrapbooking, although there was not a whole lot there yet specifically for birthmothers.

  • Scrapbooking Poems - Great database of poems to use in scrapbooks

  • DMarie - My favorite scrapbooking website! They have a great inspiration section with poems and page toppers!

Mini Books
I just came across this idea and love it! While a lifebook probably contains too much information for a mini book, you could still make this for your child. After visits, sometimes I send Charlie some pictures from that visit. I may use this idea in the future and make him a little mini book of a visit.

  1. Decide on your book size. 4x6 and 6x6 are great mini book sizes.

  2. Cut cardstock to book size.

  3. Choose about 8-10 pictures and put one on each page embellish and adding text as desired.

  4. Cut two pieces of cardboard to the size of your book.

  5. Cover cardboard with cardstock and decorate the cover.

  6. Take your mini book to an office supply store and have it spiral bound. Consider having the pages laminated for durability too!

Have fun scrapbooking!
