Coley, great post!
I know my son't birthmom did not want an open adoption or visits at first, we talked to her and let her know that we supported her to try, even though it would also be hard. She did eventually choose to visit and I have been a witness that this is not always easy for her. I think if you asked her she though she would prefer things as they are and not her original plan of a closed adoption.
Sometimes encouragement is all a mother needs, not just to parent if possible, but also to remain involved if adoption is her decision.

Thank you for your insight Jan!

I think it's safe to say: Open adoption is hard. Closed adoption is hard. Any way it's done, it's hard!

Coley, I do know closed adoptions, and nearly every birth mom that I know would have chosen open adoption if they could have. I know that I would have - not necessarily because it would have been easier. I think open adoptions are tough too - they are different.

Some birth moms do not have the strength to maintain open adoptions. Sad, but true.
