Soon it will be spring and Mother’s day is right around the corner!

When many of us who have adopted celebrate Mother’s day we also set aside the day just before Mother’s day (this year Saturday May 12th) to celebrate those most special of women who have placed their child lovingly into our family through adoption, our child’s birthmother. While I realize that becoming a birthmother is not the dream of motherhood these women may have had, it makes them no less a mother and that fact of motherhood should certainly be celebrated.

So what do you send to these terrific moms for Birthmother’s day? To begin with a card is in order, problem is if you walk through the card isle at almost any store you will not find anything that even remotely comes close to addressing the special relationship you aim to honor. You won’t see a lot of Birthmother’s day cards, or much to do with the special feelings and concerns that go along with adoption in general for that matter. Out of that lack of finding what best suits our special relationship, a very special mom has created an assortment of cards for Birthmother’s day and beyond.

Fellow blogger, birthmom, and my friend Coley has a wonderful site with a ton of great specially designed cards to honor birthmothers everywhere, and to say just about anything you want to say.
Her website HeartMark Designs is a super resources for persons looking for those unique adoption themed greeting card designs you won’t find anywhere else. One great thing about purchasing your cards in this way is that a portion of the proceeds also goes to help out other birthmothers (and those mothers considering placement) through Coley’s organization BirthMom Buds!

Well I was very excited, and pleased as punch to have one of MY children as a little model on one of Coley’s cards this year! If you visit the site my son, Carson, is featured on cards number 13 and 14! Yes on one of them they even “pinked him up” as they made him into a sweet little girl for the girly card verison! It’s ok, it’s ok, Carson gave his giggly approval when he said “Oh Mom, that’s a pretty pink BOW on my head there!” I think he is secure enough in his boyhood to go with the flow and enjoy being dolled up for the greeting card by the designer Lani.

If your looking for ideas to remember your child’s birthmother on Birthmother’s day (Saturday May 12th, 2007) I recommend you check out HeartMark Designs!

  1. Congrats on having him be on the cards! This will be my first mother’s and birthmother’s day as I placed my daughter this past October. I hope that it is not difficult for me and that I can just focus on my mother.
