Continuing from yesterday’s series on Gift Ideas for your Birthchild.
If you are crafty, there are some great and meaningful gifts you can create for your child. I think home made gifts are extra special since you have to take extra the time to create the gift. Below are some crafty gift ideas. If you have any questions, just email me or comment and I can get you more information on whatever idea you are interested in.
A treasure box or a trinket box: You can buy wooden boxes or paper-mâché boxes at most craft stores. Using fabric, decorative tissue papers, or decoupage papers, decoupage cut outs on to the box. For example, you could cut flowers out of decorative tissue paper for a girl or you could find some camouflage fabric for a boy. Using equal parts of glue and water, adhere the cut outs onto the boxes. For a girl this decorated box turns into a jewelry box. Cut a piece of felt to fit the box on the inside. For a boy, you have a treasure box to hold his treasures and trinkets.
Personalized Pillowcase: Buy a pillow case and several scrap size pieces (1/4 yard works) of fabric in your child’s favorite color. Using pinking shears for a pretty edge, cut out items your child likes, such as hearts, trucks, flowers, stars, etc.. Buy a yard for fabric fusing and fuse the shapes to the pillow case. You could also cut out the letters in your child’s name and fuse them on as well.
Photo frame: Buy a plain photo frame and enhance it by decorating the edges with ribbon, small artificial flowers, stickers, etc. Put a picture of you and your child (if you have one) inside the frame. You could also spell out yours or your child’s name in sticker letters on the frame.
Stationary: If your child is old enough to correspond via snail mail letters, you could make him or her a stationary box using a plain wooden box and decorating it. Using rubber stamps, stamp images on plain stationary or cards and now your child has personalized stationary and a spot to keep it all in.
I’m sure I will come up with more ideas in the days to come, so for now, happy shopping!
Special thanks to Mary who helped with these craft ideas!
