In continuation of our Gift Giving Series, I will continue to offer suggestions of gifts for birthmothers from their birth children and/or adoptive parents.

Part 1
Part 2

Books
Books are great, especially birthmom related ones or inspirational ones. Below are two books I’d like to recommend. You can find other birthmother books by checking the Adoption Shop and Tapestry Books.

One Birthmother’s Emotional Truth on Healing Recovery and Success by Courtney Frey – This book is a written journey of one birth mother’s navigation through betrayal, abuse, loss, and discovery. One Birthmother’s Truth is a validation and emotional guide for birthmothers who, just like the author, ache for that something more in their lives and are ready to embrace the purpose set out for them. The author shares her very spiritual path with readers by including scripture that has sustained her and intimate moments with God which have catapulted her ability to keep going on. Her fight with faith, the questions she agonized over, and finally the evidence that nothing is done in vain.

A Gift of Myself by Brenda Romanchik/Illustrated by Nicole Lundy - This colorful fill-in-the-blanks book is the perfect gift for a child to give to birthparents, grandparents and other special people in their lives. Sections include A Day in the Life of Me, Wishes and Dreams, A Few Extra Thoughts about You! And much more… Of course there are plenty of pages to draw or place pictures.

Also, I haven’t read any of John Gritter’s books yet (they are on my personal Christmas list) but I have good things about them.

Miscellaneous
Pampering items can be nice such as bath and shower gels, gift certificates to massages, pedicures, etc..

If your child’s birthmom has other children, gift certificates to the movies or dinner out can be nice also.

Again, just keep in mind it’s the thought behind the gift and not the gift itself. I just love being thought of and know that most other birthmoms do too!

So, happy gift giving!
