Do you have a visit with your child coming up this month? Many birthmoms in open adoptions that have visits as a part of their post adoption contact agreements have visits in December.
December is a great time for a visit and there are lots of fun things you could set up to do with your child and his or her family during the month of December.
Note: Some of the ideas below will vary depending on exactly how open your adoption is, the type of relationship you have with your child’s adoptive parents, the leeway you have with visits, and your child’s age and are intended to include the child’s adoptive parents as well.
- Write a letter to Santa ~ If your child has not written his or her letter to Santa, you could offer to help him or her.
- Visit Santa ~ You could go visit Santa at your local mall. If you are parenting other children, take them all together, with the adoptive parents, of course. Don’t forget to take pictures!
- Attend a special church service ~ If you attend a special service at your church for the holidays, invite your child and his or her family to attend with you.
- Baking cookies ~ Get together with your child and bake up batches of yummy Christmas cookies.
- Holiday Lights ~ Take a stroll or a ride and check out Christmas lights and decorations in your community.
- Wrapping party ~ Depending on your child’s age, you could help him or her wrap Christmas presents.
- Christmas Movies ~ Do you have a favorite Christmas movie you like to watch each year? Rent it (or buy it as a gift for your child) and watch it with your child. Don’t forget hot chocolate and popcorn!
- Christmas Crafts ~ Get crafty with your child and make some Christmas ornaments. Ask your child to select one for you to take home and put on your own tree!
- Ice Skating ~ Depending on what neck of the woods you live in, you could take your child to some fun winter outdoor activities like ice skating!
And if you buy your child Christmas gifts, don’t forget to bring those with you at your December visit!
Have fun!
