Have you seen the cute memory boards in trendy stores? I love them but they are usually pretty pricey so I just make my own! When Charlie and his family moved into their new house about five years ago, I asked A. if there was anything that was needed for Charlie’s new room and she said she wanted a memory board for his room to put photos and other memorabilia on so I offered to make him one. I had never made one before but played around and figured it out pretty easily. I made one for Charlie and one for his sister. A loved them and they are still hanging in the kids rooms.

Making a memory board is not hard and they are pretty inexpensive to make as well. And you can totally customize them to match personalities or décor. They would be a nice gift for any birthmother to display photos of her child or artwork her child has made. They would also be a nice addition to any child’s room to display photos of his birth family, cards they send him, etc.
Materials Needed:
Plain cork board (You can by this at home improvement stores like Home Depot or Lowes. It is pretty cheap but if you can’t find cork board, you could also use the thick foam board like that is used for science projects.)
Fabric of your choice (Enough to cover the entire cork board)
Ribbon
Accent Pieces
Stapler
Glue
Directions
1. Cut fabric to fit the cork board. Leave enough so that you can fold the fabric over the edges neatly.
2. Once the fabric is cut and folded over begin to tightly staple it down on the backside.
3. Cut your ribbon and criss-cross it in your desired pattern. Staple the ribbon down on the backside. I usually put a little glue under the ribbon on the back as well. You want to get it secured down as tightly as possible.
4. Use flowers, buttons, or whatever you like to add a little extra pizzazz to your memory board.
On the sports memory board, I cut a baseball, football, basketball, and soccer ball of out the fabric and mounted them on a foam sheet to make them more sturdy. Then I glued them down in the middle where the ribbon meets overlapping one another. On the back, I used a picture mounting hook so that I can hang it on a nail on the wall.
On the brown and teal memory board, I used teal flowers and glued them down in the middle. On this one, I also used ribbon to create a little hanger so that I can hang it on the wall using the ribbon.
Use your imagination and be creative!
