Last night I had a wonderful phone conversation with my friend and co-blogger Coley about her BirthMom Buds event this weekend. By all accounts it was an emotional, healing, supportive event, enjoyed by all the moms who attended. I send Kudos to my dear friend for being such a great person, a super friend to so many, and a mom both her children, placed and parented, can truly be proud of!

If you have never heard of BirthMom Buds I encourage a visit to the website and a look around. There is really something for all moms who have a connection to adoption, but most especially the group is there as a friend to friend support network for women who have placed a child for adoption or are perhaps considering that option. I know while this group never encourages a woman to make one parenting decision over another, they are a beacon of support and guidance for those who do and who wish to make a caring connection with others who have also faced the same decision.

The group has a toll free number, a buddy support system, many organized events, and a wealth of links, resources stories, poems and other information online. There is also a regular chat and a newsletter available. Started a few years ago they have grown to include over 600 members in most every state in the union as well a 4 countries.

That is a huge impact for something that began out of the friendship between two women who placed children in open adoptions around the same time, and found healing and support through each other. The desire seemed to be for them to help other women find that same kind of support and understanding, and it appears that they are off to a good start.

For anyone who has a connection to adoption reading the BirthMom Buds information, and seeing what they have to offer is well worth the time spent. I know as an adoptive mom I always come away from reading news, or hearing the stories of birthmothers there in the group with a renewed respect and interest in hearing the voices of birthmoms everywhere.

Thanks Coley for all that you do!
