Although it may not feel like it in some parts of the country (like mine lately!) the first day of autumn officially was Sunday. Hopefully the weather will catch up with the calendar soon!

If you have a visit planned for this fall, I have some ideas for you!

Note: Some of the ideas below will vary depending on exactly how open your adoption is, the type of relationship you have with your child’s adoptive parents, the leeway you have with visits, and your child’s age and are intended to include the child’s adoptive parents as well.

  • Go to the Pumpkin Patch! Some pumpkin patches have hay rides on and other activities on the weekends depending on where you live. Pick out a big pumpkin and then decorate it together!
  • Attend a Fall Festival/Carnival! There are always so many fall festivals and carnivals around this time of year. Most festivals have so many fun things to entertain children from art booths to small rides. And don’t forget that there is usually lots of yummy food!
  • Go to the mountains! Depending on where you live, take a trip to the mountains and enjoy nature. The mountains are beautiful this time of the year as the leaves are changing colors and everything is so bright and crisp.
  • Play in the leaves! Go to a park or even your own backyard and just tumble around in the leaves for a little bit. Such a fun thing for most children!
  • Go to a high school or college football game! When I think of fall, I think of football games! I love the traditions of college football; pep rallies, floats, and tailgating. Why not schedule a visit around a football game of your alma mater or a local high school or college. This one of course would probably be more fun for boys, I know Charlie loves going to football games!

Most importantly – have fun and create some wonderful memories!
