It’s really hard to believe that another month has flown by. August is almost over and we are rolling into September which has me very excited!! Not only is my birthday in September, but (for me) it signifies that it is almost and fall (with winter coming in at a close second) is my favorite season. I can’t wait to drag out my comfortable sweaters, start wearing my boots again, drink some hot cider, and go to football games! Although, it’s still too hot to do all that at the moment, I’m crossing my fingers that it will be soon.

Before, I get too excited about fall, let’s recap some of the information I’ve shared with you and topics I have covered in August. If you have missed any posts, this is a great way to catch up.

I started off August with discussing how some adoptions may start off more semi-open and then over time the adoptive parents and birthparents decide to open it up a little more. A fellow birthmother, Jamie, shared her story of how her adoption has now come to include visits and also shared some tips for others who may be considering opening their adoptions.

An article about open adoption in the LA times, featured the story of one particular open adoption situation, created a lot of talk here in AdoptionBlogs and and was written about by several different bloggers. I shared my take on the article and then shared what I felt was one of the lessons others could learn from reading the article.

Also in the news was the case of the Stocklaufer family as a Missouri judge deemed Gary Stocklaufer “too obese” to adopt. My co-blogger Deb has done an excellent job of keeping us up to date on this case and even shared how you can take action if this case outrages you as well. I focused on the birthmother’s point of view in this whole situation.

School just started here in South Carolina which prompted a short series of school related posts. I discussed challenges that can come for adopted children in school and ways that birthmoms can encourage their child to do well in school. I also did a mini series of posts about birthmothers going back to school in which I shared the story of K, a high school student who went back to school after the summer she became a birthmother and some tips for birthmothers who are going to college or back to college after some time off from school.

I love writing my “Crafting with Coley” posts and was delighted to know that you do too! Thanks to those of you who have shared with me photos of the creations you have made using the instructions I have posted. In August, I shared not one but two different craft ideas. I showed you how easy making a no sew fleece blanket is. Don’t forget that it would make a great Christmas gift for your child! And I also shared directions for making your own memory board.

I concluded this month with a mini series on people who wear more one “hat” in the adoption triad, meaning they have more than one role/position in the adoption triad. Through this series I have introduced and shared the stories of three different women who each hold dual roles in the adoption triad. Lisa is a birthmother and an adoptee. Kacy is a birthmother and an adoptive mom and Patty is an adoptee and adoptive mom. Thanks again to these three ladies for sharing their unique stories!

So, what’s coming up in September? Well, Charlie’s birthday is coming up! It is the 20th of September so in honor of his birthday I will be featuring some posts with gift ideas, tips on how to cope with your child’s birthday, and more.

Is there a topic you’d like to see me cover?? If so, please let me know by either commenting or emailing me at ColeyS@adoptionblogs.com
