Tomorrow is a big day in our house. It’s the day the social workers come for the final home visit. After 30 months and a lot of angst and worry if the judge would ever rule us a forever family – this adoption is finally on its way to being permanently legal.
When
I last posted about our adoption process we were hoping for the original documents to be filed in the court. They weren’t.
If they couldn’t be found, we’d have to either sign them all over again with the original Independent Adoption Worker (IAW) or start the adoption over from the beginning with a new IAW.
I was expecting the worst. Instead we received the best. Actually our current social worker did via the U.S. mail. The IAW we worked with almost three years ago sent in the original paperwork.
That’s right, the originals.
I was shocked when first told and wasn’t sure if I heard the social worker on the phone right. Somewhere in the conversation I asked if the papers were real and if she could actually see them to verify. She could and she did. There may have been a chuckle or two from her end.
So tomorrow is the day they come out and do the last home visit. The final paperwork is already written up. They are just doing the final look to make sure all is accurate. After the visit they are filing the papers with the court.
I’m so positive we’re in the final run I’m planning the ‘Forever Family’ party in my head. I’m thinking something sunny and vibrant in color for the theme, with a backyard barbeque and, perhaps, a rented waterslide.
However I still have one big question. How long does it take from the filing of the final report to the finalization court date? Anyone know?
