cakeEvery year since he was born, Tara, myself and Phoenix, along with my oldest son get together and have a small visit. I bring him presents, to say happy birthday with, and I watch my boys play together. Last year was especially great. Phoenix would sit on the steps in the play area at McDonald's and motioned for Nick, my oldest son, to sit with him. He was a hoot, and they had more fun together. I got to hug him, and sit with him while Tara went to get food. I still remember his first birthday. All of the adoptive family, plus some were there, and I had made a cake-a red velvet with whipped topping for frosting. Well, Phoenix was sitting… [more]

My Son’s Mother

September 22nd, 2011

KathyI learned so much from my son’s mother. She became everything to him that I could not. She gave him bottles, baseballs and band uniforms. She also gave him my love. She didn’t just love him for herself – she loved him for both of us. She made sure he knew not only the depths of her love, but mine as well. She understood and respected the fact that his life began with me, but continued with her. A Piece of My Life

July 12th, 2011

heart_puzzleI'm going to begin by thanking whoever is taking the time to read a piece of my life. Any of the stated circumstances make this the perfect reading. I'm hoping you enjoy while I use this as a therapy session! My name is Byina Shavon Jimenez. I was born in San Diego, CA on November 14th 1983 to a Woman who I’m assuming just couldn't care… [more]

Adoption Day Giveaway Has Arrived!

November 17th, 2007

Early in the morning I am off to the local library to present a reading of author Sherrie Eldridge’s new adoption book, “Forever Fingerprints” in honor of National Adoption Day. Normally our family would simply spend the day together, but the opportunity to share this great book with others in the community was to good to pass up. I am very excited about how EMK press, the books publisher, has also donated a copy to the library, as well as many other libraries, churches, and groups nationwide in a huge coast to coast reading event. Right now I believe that there is at least one reading scheduled in every state! In order to encourage people to see the positives in adoption, and the beautiful connection… [more]

One morning this past week, I was watching/listening to the Today Show while checking email, reading blogs, etc as I do every weekday early morning. On that particular day Ann Curry, one of the Today Show anchors was interviewing one of the other anchors, Hoda Kotb. Hoda was disusing her battle with breast cancer. As I listened to her describe what she has been through, I found it very inspiring and things she said are things that I could apply to my own life. First of all, let me say, that I am not trying to make light of Hoda or anyone else’s struggle with breast cancer nor am I trying to compare adoption or being a birthmother to breast cancer. However, I was… [more]
