Our Son
I wrote the following poem for one of my kid's birth mom. She is an amazing woman, who was in foster care herself throughout much of her life. Currently, she is raising my son's younger brothers and sister and doing much better than when my son lived with her. I have such a respect for her and what she has overcome and I am proud call her friend.
You, me, somehow turned into we.
Our lives, so different, a familiar thread stringing us together.
Two women with little in common
living separate, yet permanently intertwined.
Yours a life of heartache, pain, struggle.
Into adulthood you went screaming
learning, doing, much too young.
Becoming a mom before you were done being a child
Butterflies, rainbows and the tooth fairy dotted my skies

Remembering – Peace
Looking at the many tributes to the fallen soldiers both past and present this Memorial day holiday, I ran across a little poem by Amanda Bradley that I wanted to share. Her words not only eloquently spoke of those we honor today, but it also seemed to speak to me of all the hopes that I hold for the adoption community.
For all the conflict we often find dividing us, we still need to reach out to one another for empathy and understanding. Because the experiences that mark our personal journeys are so complex and different, it is all to easy to forget that we also share an important connection in each other. Our connection, whether it is as different parents of… [more]
Sunday Inspiration: The Daisy’s Story
I have always loved daisies for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I was very close to my paternal grandmother and spent a lot of time with her. Her name was Daisy so because of her that flower has always been one of my favorites. Give me daisies over roses any day and I’m a happy woman.
I wanted daisies in my bridal bouquet in memory of her. Carrying those daisies in my bouquet that day made me feel closer to her.
I came across this story of the daisy today online and knew it was perfect for this week’s Sunday Inspiration.

Sunday Inspiration: My Life is but a Weaving
I recently came across this poem and instantly fell in love with it. It talks about how God weaves the events in our lives and I truly believe that.
I don’t necessarily believe that it was in God’s plan for me to become unexpectdly pregnant at a time in my life that I couldn’t care for my baby . But I do believe, that once my mistakes (meaning my pregnancy, NOT Charlie) had been set into motion and my choice about placing Charlie for adoption had been made, God interviened and led me on the path that I am now on.
I do believe that He matched me with the awesome parents for Charlie. I believe that He opened the doors to… [more]
Sunday Inspiration: The Starfish Story
I only recent was told about the Starfish Story, but I love it.
In my opinion, it is very inspirational. The message speaks to me as sometimes I feel like giving up. But the message in this piece is loud and clear – keep on trying to make a difference. If you make a difference to one person, then that one person is enough.
Based on the story by Loren Eisley...
I awoke early, as I often did, just before sunrise to walk by the ocean's edge and greet the new day. As I moved through the misty dawn, I focused on a faint, far away motion. I saw a youth, bending and reaching and flailing arms, dancing on the beach, no doubt in… [more]
Sunday Inspiration: Footprints in the Sand
Some of you seemed to enjoy last Sunday’s Inspirational post entitled A Healing Prayer, so I thought that each Sunday I would share something I find inspirational with my readers, whether it be a poem, a story, or a quote.
This week’s Sunday Inspiration is a poem that I am sure some of you have heard or read before called Footprints in the Sand. I love this poem and it rings very true for me. I know that no matter how tough things get that God is always there for me. Sometimes when I need a little reminding, when it feels like I can’t handle much more, I read this poem.

A Healing Prayer
This isn’t specifically adoption related but is a prayer that my Mom sent me awhile back. I really like what it says and feel that it applies to my life in many different ways and situations. Since it is Sunday, I thought I would share it with all of you.
A Healing Prayer
-- Author Unknown --
I am capable. I am worthwhile.
I am beautiful. I am lovable.
I shall accept both my strengths
and my weaknesses for they are me.
I shall never again believe the lie
that if I make a mistake,
I am a mistake.
My mistakes are the learning tools
that I shall encounter on my journey.
When I learn from my mistakes,
I give them meaning
When I give my mistakes meaning,
I can begin to forgive myself,
I can begin to… [more]
Love Thursday- Poetry
I really love poetry, although I do not get the opportunity to read so much now days. When I was younger I would head to the library after school to pour over volumes of Emerson, Frost, and Poe among others. The things that made my favorites most interesting to me was how the lines often seemed to speak of my own situation in life. There is something to be said for the feeling you get when you read experiences you can relate to. Life put down into words that flow so much clearer than you might ever be able to express yourself. Although I do not get to read so much anymore, I still love to see something in prose that speaks… [more]
National Adoption Awareness Month – A poem
Today is the first day of November, so happy November! And you’d have to be living under a rock by now to read the blogs and not know that it is National Adoption Awareness Month. So Happy National Adoption Awareness Month! Periodically through out the month, I will bring different stories and situations related to Adoption Awareness Month to you.
First, I’d like to share a poem that friend and fellow birthmom Alicia Moser wrote in honor of National Adoption Awareness Month. Alicia has recently published a book of poetry entitled Alicia’s Memoirs that contains numerous different poems, many adoption related or about her birth daughter.
