Song Related to Adoption: Here Comes Goodbye
As I’ve mentioned before, I love music and can often times here a song and relate to it in some way, shape, or form. The lyrics of songs can cheer me up, make me feel happy or sad, make me feel less alone, or remind me of a particular moment in my life. Often times for me, it isn’t the whole song I relate to but a particular verse, the chorus, or sometimes even just one particular line or phrase. Sometimes I can hear a song repeatedly before it may touch me.
As I was recently listening to the radio Here Comes Goodbye by Rascal Flatts song came on. I’ve been touched by many of their songs and while I’ve heard this song before… [more]
Rocks in your Shoes
Over the weekend, I was at home alone for a bit. All was quiet and I was in a pretty mellow mood, just kind of working on some things but nothing too intent. I had the TV on for background noise as I so often do. This time it was tuned to CMT or Country Music Television if you are unfamiliar with the acronym. A video was on but I wasn’t really paying attention to the song but the chorus caught my ear and I stopped what I was doing for a moment to pay closer attention. Although the song Rocks in my Shoes by Emily West isn’t directly about adoption, there were parts that related to my journey as a birthmother.
So the song… [more]
Starts with Goodbye
I was working last night on the computer and didn’t feel like listening to the Television so I let the computer randomly play songs from our music library. Starts with Goodbye by Carrie Underwood came on. I’m sure I have probably heard this song before as I’ve listened to the CD multiple times, but it never struck me the way it did until today.
The song is actually about moving on and getting over an ex-boyfriend or husband, but as I listened to the lyrics, especially the chorus, I couldn’t help but think of myself and other birthmothers.
The end of the first stanza reads:
So hard to see myself without him,
I felt a piece of my heart break,
But when you're standing at a crossroad,
There's a… [more]
25 Meaningful Songs
I’ve mentioned before how much I love music. I’ve been a music lover for as long as I can remember. I sang in choirs, travelled with choirs, and was pursuing a degree in music when I got pregnant with Noah. Although I no longer sing for anyone other than Noah, I still love music. Music and lyrics can cheer me up, make me feel less alone, or remind me of a particular moment in my life.
Over a year ago, I previously shared a list of songs with you that I enjoy. In this post, I’m updating, adding to that list, and creating a new list of my personal favorite top 25 songs that relate to adoption, remind me of my love… [more]
Song: I Loved Her First
I’ve told you before about my love of music. It seems that sometimes I can hear a song that has absolutely nothing to do with adoption or the love between a mother and a child but yet, it reminds me of Charlie or my love for him. Has this ever happened to you? Have you ever heard a song that had absolutely nothing to do with adoption but it just something in that song touched you and reminded you of your child?
That happened recently when I was listening to the radio while driving home with my husband. I’d heard the song, I Loved Her First, by Heartland at least more than a dozen times before but it’d never struck me in the way… [more]
The Unwritten Pages of 2008
Many people view the New Year as a clean slate, an opportunity to put the past behind them and start a new. It sounds good to me! I like the idea that today is day one in the unwritten chapter of 2008 of my life.
Talking about it in that perspective, that it is day one in the unwritten chapter of 2008 reminds me of one of my favorite songs, Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield. The lyrics in the song talk about starting over and how the future is unwritten.
Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find
That’s a really great way to look at things at times, whether it is the start… [more]
Mark Shultz Adoption Story Contest
In conjunction with his song, "Everything to Me" Mark Shultz is holding a contest and is calling for submissions of adoption stories.
In case you may not be familiar with Mark Shultz, let me explain. He is a Christian singer and song writer who is quite popular nowadays. His songs have a message that resonates with people.
Mark himself is adopted and had never given a whole lot of thought to his adoption story or his birthmother. He himself believed the popular misconception that his birthmother just “gave him away.” Talking with a woman after singing at a pro life benefit he began to see the other side. This lady explained his birth mother’s options to him and then he began to realize that she… [more]
What Hurts the Most
I’ve talked before about my love of music and how I can hear certain songs and just connect with the lyrics for one reason or another. The Rascal Flatts song, What Hurts the Most, is no different. It reminds me of how I sometimes feel as a birthmother. I’m going to share certain parts of the lyrics and explain why they make me feel the way I do. If you’d like to read the complete lyrics for the song check out this webpage.
Even though going on with you gone still upsets me
There are days every now and again I pretend I’m ok
But that’s not what gets me
This part reminds me of when I first became a birthmom… [more]
The Goodbye Girls
Well my visitors of the last three and a half weeks have left us today. I really enjoyed having my nieces stay with us, they will be missed by everyone here. My girls enjoyed playing with their older, “cool” cousins, and my little son enjoyed the extra pampering he received. We really all wanted to keep R and K forever. The sad detail in this visit, is that it was just one of many similar sad goodbyes over the years for us, and it made me again wonder why it has to happen.
The girls started coming to us as babies, being raised by a mother who bounced them around in her uncertain, mostly unstable world. We became their respite care. The topic of… [more]
Tough by Craig Morgan
Today while driving a new (or at least it’s new to me) song came on the radio and caught my attention. The song is titled Tough and it’s sung by Craig Morgan, a country music singer. I immediately fell in love with it.
The song talks about a woman who is described as being tough. In the first verse we learn that the woman juggles her children, her husband, and still does all the every day things. She’s described as tough for appearing to handle it with grace and ease. In the second verse, the woman is diagnosed with cancer. She’s described as tough for the way she handles it and comforts others. Although I do not have cancer, I think I can… [more]
