Getting through Easter

Easter is Sunday! Can you believe it? It really doesn’t feel like it; or at least to me it doesn’t! Partially on my part it could be because I have been so sick and under the weather from what they thought was the flu and now have decided is a stomach ulcer. But, it could also be in part because Easter is coming early this year.

It’s good in a way that Easter is early and I just haven’t had much of a chance to think about it yet this year as I haven’t started the bittersweet dread I have with some holidays. Don’t get me wrong, I love holidays. I typically (when I’m feeling... more

Sending your Child a Valentine

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and if you are like me, you may want to do or send something extra special for your child in honor of this holiday. While some may think that Valentine’s Day is a day to show your significant other how much they are loved, I think it’s an excellent day to show any loved ones in your life that they are loved.

If you are looking for ideas as to what to send your child for Valentine’s Day, I have a few ideas for you. You could go very simple or go a little more elaborate, either way though; your child will know that... more

January Review

Well, the first month in the new year has come and gone! The start of the New Year reminded me that 2008 lies before us like the unwritten pages of a book. Kind of exciting to think about it that way, that the slate is clean and we can try and mold the year into whatever we want it to be like. One of my New Year’s Resolutions was to try and write letters to Charlie each month (January is done and in the mail!) so I shared some tips on how... more

Another Year Goes by

“Time by minutes slips away, First the hour, then the day, Small the daily loss appears, Yet soon it amounts to years”

- Ronald Tierney

It is hard for me to believe that another year has passed, and my youngest will be 4 years old on Thursday! The time since first holding him at 3 days old has flown by, and the tiny baby has changed and developed into quite a terrific little boy. I know that we are all looking forward to celebrating his birthday this weekend with family and friends, but a small part of me acknowledges... more

December Review

December was a very busy and emotional month for me! I didn’t get to write as much as I wanted to between some tiny network issues when they debuted the blog makeover, the holidays, being sick, and Noah being on Christmas vacation just to name a few.

Although I didn’t get to write as much as usual, I did manage to squeeze in some holiday related posts. I discussed gift giving between birthmoms and their children as well as buying... more

Your Year in Three Words

On the weekend edition of Good Morning America each weekend they have a segment called “Your Week in Three Words.” I love this segment. Viewers send in a short video of themselves explaining what happened during their week in a creative way in just three little words.

For example, one week in the video, you see a lady’s hand and on her palm is written “I said” and then her hand turns over and you see the top of her ring finger with the letters “Y-E-S” and a shiny engagement ring. They make a montage of the videos that viewers send... more

New Year’s Resolutions

Do you make a New Year’s Resolution or goal for the New Year? Sometimes in the past I have made resolutions for the New Year, but like many people I feel they can be a tad bit intimidating at times. Many people feel that by starting resolutions at the beginning of the New Year, you have a fresh start or a clean slate, so to speak. Which is true, but it can also be very overwhelming for some to try and suddenly make a big change in your life just as one year fades out and another one... more

Year End Favorite Posts

Since there are only a few days left in 2007, I was thinking over all that I have written in the past year and I clearly have posts that are my favorites. Narrowing it down wasn’t easy, but I came up with a list of my five favorite posts from ’07.

1. Grief Will Not Win: In this post, I shared a quote that I had just come across. “You can let the grief control you or you can control the grief.” ~ Author Unknown I then go on to say how each day when I wake up, I feel like I have a... more

This Birthmother’s Christmas

Posted by : Coley S. in Open Adoption Blog at 11:58 pm , 381 words, 266 views
Categories: Emotions and Coping

First of all, let me wish all of my readers a very Merry Christmas. I hope that you were able to spend the day (or at least part of it) with loved ones. I hope you had a peaceful day as well.

My Christmas was nice; busy, but nice. It started out busy because of all the things that I must do as the Mom of another child, one that I am parenting. Ya know, stuffing the stockings and all that. It's days like today that I am all the more thankful for the child I am parenting because he takes my mind off the one that I am not. Often times through out the day today, when... more

If You Could Just Elf Yourself

Categories: Christmas

Well it is 1:00am here, we are back from our church’s candlelight service, kids are asleep, and these stockings are about to get stuffed!

To everyone out there have a very Merry Christmas!

The picture with this post is one I took earlier in the week, mom fooling around and pretending to be one of ‘Santa’s elves.’ Honestly I look like I have ingested way too much eggnog (light on the egg, heavy on the nog.) I think it is funny, but I also know that this is a picture of the me that has really been missing for some time now.... more
