This isn’t specifically adoption related but is a prayer that my Mom sent me awhile back. I really like what it says and feel that it applies to my life in many different ways and situations. Since it is Sunday, I thought I would share it with all of you.

A Healing Prayer -- Author Unknown --

I am capable. I am worthwhile. I am beautiful. I am lovable. I shall accept both my strengths and my weaknesses for they are me.

I shall never again believe the lie that if I make a mistake, I am a mistake.... more

In honor of the coming holiday (and in light of recent negative studies and related grumblin) I wanted to comment on some positive, loving things that can come out of the open adoption experience.

People always have things to say about the difficulties that adoption brings with it. It can become way to easy to get bogged down and forget what we who are involved in an open adoption are working so to hard to make happen.

It’s about the kids, loving them and respecting each other.

If... more

Love Thursday- Poetry

I really love poetry, although I do not get the opportunity to read so much now days. When I was younger I would head to the library after school to pour over volumes of Emerson, Frost, and Poe among others. The things that made my favorites most interesting to me was how the lines often seemed to speak of my own situation in life. There is something to be said for the feeling you get when you read experiences you can relate to. Life put down into words that flow so much clearer than you might ever be able to express yourself. Although I do not get... more

It’s kind of funny how I always seem to think about Johnny Cash at the end of each year. It’s a little crazy. I have never been what you would call a big fan. I do recall his notion that he could never change his garb from the black he always wore until the world had changed enough for the better. Starting a new year always seems to provide hope for positive change. I think as a child I hoped with each new year I would see Johnny wear some white, like that would be some sort of sign to me the world was getting better. Sadly enough... more

Adoption Songs - Top 15

I love music. I always have. I took private voice lessons, piano, and was very involved in show choir back in high school. I loved the feeling I get when while singing and being on the stage. I love how I can slip into a different mood or mind frame while singing certain songs.

Knowing that about me, it’s no doubt that I don’t have a slew of adoption songs in my music collection. Although a few of the songs are directly or indirectly specifically about adoption, most of the songs are not songs with lyrics that relate specifically to adoption, but songs... more

Today is the first day of November, so happy November! And you’d have to be living under a rock by now to read the blogs and not know that it is National Adoption Awareness Month. So Happy National Adoption Awareness Month! Periodically through out the month, I will bring different stories and situations related to Adoption Awareness Month to you.

First, I’d like to share a poem that friend and fellow birthmom Alicia Moser wrote in honor of National Adoption Awareness Month. Alicia has recently published a book of poetry entitled Alicia’s... more
